Thank you for this video-I always enjoy watching and learning about these waterways.I just wondered if place some sort of wire netting on top of the channels would keep them running?At some point the fallen leaves would still have to be removed but there would not be so many as much of those accumulated would simply rot into very small pieces then drop in the still running water.

I think there are situations where it can be used!
これだけの大規模な水路計画に予算を投じるだけの需要とそれに賛成する人が多かったってことでしょうね。
今の時代に実現できるかどうか、新たな技術や経路でシンプルなものにしたとしてもなかなか難しそう。

この水路は6,70年は経っているそうです。当時はそれだけ需要があったのでしょうね～
これおひとりでやってるんだったら本当にスゴい……
自分たちが狩猟で借りてる古民家のエリア、ただ借りてるだけだとアレなんで水路掃除や草刈りに仲間から人手を毎回出して手伝っていますが、それで合計10人くらいでやっても結構重労働ですので……。

This is because putting a lid on will make it more likely to get clogged.
